Peter Bachman Therapy Group is a psychotherapy practice with offices in Takoma Park, MD and Kensington, MD. We specialize in individual, family, and couples therapy for all ages.

CHILD THERAPY

What child therapy looks like depends on a number of factors including the child’s age, the challenge the child is experiencing, and the therapist, to name a few. Our clinicians are trained in Play Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in addition to many other interventions. Play Therapy allows the child a safe place to use play to communicate their feelings and eventually connect their feelings to words; first symbolically, and then more directly the more comfortable they get. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy uses concrete strategies to increase awareness around thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a direct way in order to make change. Often a combination of interventions is necessary, and the best combination will be determined collaboratively with your clinician.

FAMILY THERAPY

Family Therapy is often used in combination with individual therapy in order to use family relationships as a source of healing. Therapists and families work together to identify patterns and dynamics and make changes to the family system that promote growth, connection, and healing.

ADULT INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Our clinicians are trained in a number of interventions in addition to those listed above including mindfulness-based interventions, internal family systems. We provide a safe and supportive environment where your own wisdom is trusted to be the source of healing. Our job is to facilitate this healing, and each clinician uses their own background and style to tailor their approach to you.

COUPLES THERAPY

Couples Therapy is an opportunity for couples to work together with a therapist on issues such as communication, intimacy, and trust in order to create the healthiest version of their relationship. Our clinicians have been trained in a variety of interventions to meet you where you are and help you connect with your partner.

PARENT COACHING

Parent coaching can be an effective and efficient intervention in which parents meet with a therapist and discuss their concerns. With the therapist, parent or parents will identify concerns and develop specific strategies to address these concerns. Often, parents meet regularly with therapists for a period of time to discuss challenges related to any or all of their children.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the therapy process work?2024-10-21T08:22:30-05:00

Individuals will typically have a short introductory phone call with their therapist to discuss scheduling and any questions they may have when starting out. Usually the first session is an intake session where your therapist will get a better understanding of you and/or your family, and you will get to know your therapist. For family therapy and child therapy, the first few sessions will involve you as parents with and without your child or children depending on age and situation. After this period a plan will be made together with you that will determine how sessions will be structured and what the goals are.

How does payment work?2024-10-21T08:23:34-05:00

Our group is out-of-network for insurance. We provide monthly superbills that can be submitted to insurance for potential reimbursement. You can contact your insurance company to determine what if any reimbursement you may receive. The procedure codes (CPT) we use for therapy are primarily 90791, 90834, 90846, and 90847 in case the insurer would like to know.
